Fulfils the Enviromental Agency's Bathing Water Quality Standards.

Ventnor is a sun trap bay sheltered by high cliffs on which the terraced town is built. A steep road winds down from the town past the famous cascade gardens to the seafront.

Ventnor is suitable for families of all ages and is popular for residents and visitors alike. Water sports are not a suitable activity for this area. There are many hidden rocks and the tide is very strong. For information the local longshoreman are happy to provide this and will be only too pleased to talk to you about the local history.

During the summer season Ventnor beach is litter picked on a daily basis. The Marine Conservation Society also undertake cleans at this area, this is to enable them to monitor the waste and research its origin.

Emergency equipment such as Lifebelts and an emergency telephone are strategically located along the Esplanade in order to ensure safety at any time of the year. The Inshore Rescue is also close at hand and are always on call by the Coastguard.

Ventnor has not only been awarded a Quality Coast Award but is also a Blue Flag Winner.

Like anywhere, Ventnor has its natural hazards so be sure to read the safety guidelines and have a good time. Information is provided at each area so check the tide timetables to ensure your own safety and where appropriate do not swim when the Red Flag is flying.
